1930 - Pittsburgh Athletic Club right wing Jen Mallen died.
1949 - Pittsburgh Penguins left wing Gregg Sheppard was born.
1961 - Penguins center Jock Callander and goaltender Alain Chevrier were born.
1992 - Mario Lemieux scored three goals against the Washington Capitals' Don Beaupre for his second career playoff hat trick.
1997 - Mario Lemieux scored on what many people thought was his final shot at the Civic Arena - against the Flyers in the playoffs. Lemieux with just over a minute to play, scored on Garth Snow.
1998 - Aleksey Morozov missed on an overtime penalty shot and the Penguins lost to the Montreal Canadiens, 3-2, to open the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals. Montreal won the series in seven games.
2001 - Martin Straka scored 13:04 into overtime as Pittsburgh defeated the Washingon Capitals, 4-3, in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals. It was the third time in franchise history that the Pens won in overtime of a series-deciding game (1970 & 1979).
2016 - The Pittsburgh Penguins defeat the New York Rangers, 6-3. Pittsburgh wins the series, 4-1, to advance to the second round of the playoffs.
