Pittsburgh Hockey History Made on April 20th...

1952 - Pittsburgh Hornets won their first AHL Championship by beating the Providence Reds in six games on a Ray Hannigan goal at the 6:08 mark of the second overtime. Led by Coach King Clancy, it was Pittsburgh's first Calder Cup in the 16-year history of the team. The Hornets had to wait a day to collect the Cup back in Pittsburgh. Andy Barbe and Tim Horton also scored for Pittsburgh.
1954 - Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Gilles Lupien was born.
1971 - Pittsburgh Phantoms defenseman Brock Woods was born.
1975 - Penguins right wing Steve Webb was born.
1993 - Tom Barrasso earned his third career shutout in the playoffs by stopping 36 shots to beat the New Jersey Devils, 7-0. It set the record for the largest margin of victory on home ice in the playoffs.
2006 - Craig Patrick was fired as general manager of the Penguins after 15 years with the team. Patrick's tenure with the club saw them win two Stanley Cup Championships and featured a record of 575-511-127-37 and a .573 winning percentage.
