November 18 - Obtained Paul Gardner and Dave Burrows from Toronto for Paul Marshall and Kim Davis.

January 2 - Obtained Gary Rissling from Washington for a fifth round choice in the 1981 Entry Draft.

March 10 - Obtained Pat Price from Edmonton for Pat Hughes.

• Ed Johnston was named head coach of the Penguins on July 15.

• Paul Gardner scored four goals vs. Philadelphia on December 13, becoming the first player in Penguins history to accomplish this feat.

• Penguins set franchise record with six consecutive victories from February 22 to March 4.

• Rick Kehoe’s 55 goals set a single-season franchise record.

• St. Louis’ Mike Crombeen scored at 5:16 of the second OT to give St. Louis a 4-3 win in the deciding game of the preliminary playoff round.

• Randy Carlyle was named First Team All-Star.

• Rick Kehoe won the Lady Byng Trophy and Randy Carlyle won the James Norris Trophy, the first time a Penguins’ player captured an NHL Award.
