TRANSACTIONS

October 4 - Claimed Nolan Baumgartner in Waiver Draft.

November 1 - Nolan Baumgartner lost in Waiver Draft to Vancouver.

November 30 - Acquired Sergei Anshakov and Martin Strbak from Los Angeles Kings in exchange for Martin Straka.

March 4 - Claimed Jon Sim off waivers from Los Angeles.

March 8 - Acquired Alain Nesreddine from New York Islanders in exchange for Steve Webb.

• Marc-Andre Fleury made 46 saves – including a penalty shot – in his first NHL game, a 3-0 loss to the Los Angeles Kings on October 10. Ryan Malone become the first native Pittsburgher to play for the Penguins.

• On October 29, Mario Lemieux recorded his 1,700 career point in a game against the New York Islanders.

• A hip injury would sideline Mario Lemieux after just 10 games

• Fleury recorded his first NHL shutout on October 30 against the Chicago Blackhawks.

• Eight players scored their first NHL goals, a team record for a season:
