2000-07 Pittsburgh Penguins Alternate/Home Jerseys
The Penguins introduced a new alternate, or third, jersey on October 28, 2000 against the New Jersey Devils. The new jersey featured Las Vegas Gold in lieu of the Old Varsity Gold.

The jersey was a return to the familiar skating penguin last seen in the Cup winning year of 1991-92. It was at a pre-season press conference team owner Mario Lemiuex donned a Jaromir Jagr new jersey for the first time and jokingly mocked Jagr's goal celebration by kissing his two fingers and pointed heavenward.

The press conference jersey was next seen on the ice at team's Southpointe practice facility when Jagr was wearing it passing a puck to old teammate Mario Lemieux. The two stars were taping a segment with ESPN's Darren Pang. This was Lemieux' first time on the ice since his retirement in 1997. Little did anyone know at the time, that in less than 2 months, Lemieux would come out of retirement on December 27, 2000.

The team had their first ever "Shirts Off Our Backs" promotion after their season finale against the Toronto Maple Leafs on April 22, 2002. Team members skated from the dressing room to the blue line and gave up their jerseys to randomly selected fans in attendence at the game.

Some of the remaining jerseys from that season have stamps sewn inside the hem for authentication purposes.

Hockey Fights Cancer, and NHL charity auction, featured the team captains wearing a special HOCKEY FIGHTS CANCER patch on their jerseys. Jaromir Jagr wore one on a road jersey against the Dallas Stars on January 19, 2001. Mario Lemiuex 's home jersey had the patch on it in a match against the St. Louis Blues on January 12, 2002.

The NHL recognized the September 11 attacks by having the players wear the Sept 11 Red, White, and Blue ribbon on their helmets for the entire 2001-02 season.

This style jersey became the current home style jersey in 2002-03 through 2006-07. There were two other occasions in which this style jersey featured a patch for a charity auction:
The Pens wore a Hurricane Katrina relief patch and the Garth Brooks Foundation.
