The Washington Capitals and Pittsburgh Penguins squared off in the NHL’s fourth outdoor game on January 1, 2011 at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh.
The Penguins and Capitals wore “throwback†style uniforms. Pittsburgh sported the a dark jersey similar to the team’s first uniform.  A circular “Pittsburgh Penguins†crest featured the scarf-wearing penguin that was never used on a uniform before.
Both teams’ jerseys featured a NHL Winter Classic 2011 patch on the front-right chest area.
