On October 4, 1936, the Detroit Olympics were sold, moved to Pittsburgh, and were re-named the Pittsburgh Hornets.  The Hornets played their home games at Duquesne Garden and made their debut in the International-American Hockey League in 1936-37. The league transformed into the American Hockey League in 1940.

The Hornets wore wool jerseys that were primarily gray with red trim on the neck.  The sleeves featured red arm bands with two white stripes.  The hemline was red and white.

The road version of this year’s jersey was on a burgundy red base with white arm bands and red stripes.

The jersey had a 12-inch circular crest that was made of twill and had cable-knit embroidery.

Players wore matching gray socks with red and white stripes that matched the armbands on the jersey.
