The Pittsburgh Hornets brought some of their past with them when they returned to play in 1961. Â The Hornets emerged from five seasons of inactivity when the Duquesne Gardens were torn down and the Civic Arena was under construction.
The wool jerseys had a red base with with arm trim with six stars and a white belt around the hemline. The jerseys featured tie-down collars.
A full circular crest finally revealed the rest of the helmeted hornet’s body. Uniform numbers were four inches tall in the front on the upper right of the jersey. Â Rear ten-inch numbers were made of white twill.
The letter P on the shorts appear only during the 1961-62 season. The next two seasons, the shorts were basic red with a white stripe.
